Stuff I Make and Like
So.

Ron Weasley gives free ice cream to kids. Harry Potter talks about the importance of feminism and gay rights. Hermione Granger is a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Women.

The heroes of my childhood became the heroes of my adulthood.

My boyfriend broke up with me and my 80 year old, 5 foot tall, Indian grandmother told me that “there are lots of men…”

I thought she was then going to say “…in the sea” but she said “…they’re like flies” and made a disgusted face.

She hates flies.

I like the sound of your grandmother.

Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots. ‘Cause it’s OK to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading. ‘Cause you think that being a girl is degrading. But secretly, you’d love to know what it’s like… Wouldn’t you? What it feels like for a girl.

— Charlotte Gainsbourg

A company in Australia by the name of HommeMystere started making lingerie for men in April of 2013. In the beginning, they received a lot of negative publicity, mostly from women fearing their boyfriends or husbands would start wearing lingerie. So much for femininism… Now, they have consistently been making a small fortune and have become quite popular in the fashion capitals of the world. So far:

  • They have made two appearances at the International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas.
  • They have gone public in the United States, France, Sweden, and Japan.
  • They have sold out of four lines of their clothing.
  • And they have reached one million veiws on their YouTube channel.

What is more, because they do not focus on the gay community, they haven’t put any barriers up against straight men who happen to make up the majority of their orders. If that is not success, I do not know what is. Cheers, HommeMystere.

Last photo is a good example of double-standards surrounding boys and girls wearing clothes traditionally assigned to the opposite gender. Girls can wear “boys’ clothes” because masculinity is considered default and is respected. Boys cannot wear “girls’ clothes” because femininity is defined as weakness and is not respected as masculinity is, so men are not respected if they exhibit any traditionally feminine traits. which includes a whole slew of things like wearing “girls’ clothes,” having sex with men, liking pink, being the primary caretaker of one’s children, etc… fuck gender roles

aiming for that 2016 black vote early

oh boy…

too early to call child protective services or….?

already fucked up by naming him kieran.

Just to add another layer of WTF, the name Kieran/Keiran means “black" or "little dark one" in Gaelic. The kid’s name is basically Black Romney.

😭

22nd? how will this little boy grow up? is this the same romney? i just… i have questions.

Why why why whyyyyyyyy

I don’t understand why this is upsetting, so I’ll just ask questions and hope someone can answer.1. Is it racist/abusive to adopt a child if their skin color is different?
2. I read that Kieran was named by his birth mother. Was it racist/abusive for her to name him Kieran?
3. The Romneys have 5 adult children, all married with families, so doing some simple multiplication, 22 grandchildren isn’t that strange. Kieran only has one sibling in the family he was adopted into. Do people assume that all 22 cousins lives in one house?
I don’t know much anything about Romney, so everything I mentioned above was just the result of quick Googling. I assume everyone who is criticizing the adoptive parents knows far more about the situation, so I would appreciate any corrections to anything I’ve said. Thank you!

I’ve seen some posts making this guilt trip of how the people who like to dress up as a sugar skull or the Catrina for halloween or whatever is racist and cultural appropriation.

Nah, it’s completely fine, as long as you are not totally ignorant about it or disrespectful.

Sugar skull represents the deceased, in a joyful manner. And the Catrina is just a social critic which became an icon later on for the day of the dead and Mexico.

It is not offensive to turn this into a costume or an accessory because it already is, so if you want to dress up like sugar skulls on Halloween, do so, but atleast know it’s value.

Be open minded, don’t even hate, and share this rich culture we have with the rest of humanity, chill.

This post is about that eradicating guilt trip and blaming, and turn it into self awareness

I gotta admit, I am hugely inspired by the Day of the Dead, and imagery from it turned up a lot in my art, and tumblr made me stop referencing it for quite some time.

Now I can go back to drawing La Catrina to my heart’s content

“some historians think that michelangelo was drawing god in a human brain. very few people knew what one looked like at the time; but michelangelo had dissected cadavers and would have known. it even has the hint of a brain stem. if true this would have been a great “fuck you” to the pope whom he was not friendly with but also would have meant god was in a human brain, or created by man.”

Interesting.

also michelangelo painted a baby angel flipping off the pope

image

the blond one, you see his right hand? that’s called the fig and it’s an old world european gesture for ‘fuck you” because apparently Pope Juluis II was a total raging asshole and everyone hated him

but nobody ever noticed this little fucker because the ceiling was so high

and then thirty years later they called michelangelo back to paint the wall behind the altar and he wasted no time in painting the gates of hell behind the pope’s chair

what a badass

It amuses me to this day how much Michelangelo hated his job
